Beyond GLP-1: How Blood Work Helped Me Optimize My Hormones

Est. read time: ~5 minutes ▪ Tampa, FL ▪ March 2026

If you read my first blog post, you know my story — the twins, the 40 pounds of baby weight, the Hashimoto's diagnosis, and the long road to discovering GLP-1 therapy, red light therapy, glutathione, and lymphatic drainage. That chapter of my wellness journey changed my life. But here's the thing about wellness: it's not a destination. It's an ongoing conversation between you and your body.

After experiencing such a profound transformation, I found myself asking a new question: What else might I be missing? I was feeling better — but was I feeling my best? That's when I decided to go deeper. I had comprehensive blood work done to look at my hormones as a whole, check for nutrient deficiencies, and really understand what was happening inside my body at a cellular level.

What I found was eye-opening — and it sparked an entirely new layer of my wellness journey that I'm beyond excited to share with you.

Why I Decided to Look at the Full Picture with Blood Work

GLP-1 was a game-changer for me. It helped me lose the remaining weight, kept inflammation down, and supported my overall health in ways I hadn't expected. But I started noticing subtle things — days where my energy dipped, moments where my mood felt heavier, times where sleep wasn't as restorative as it should have been. On paper, I was doing everything "right." So why wasn't I consistently feeling 100%?

The answer, I discovered, was that I hadn't yet looked at the whole picture. Wellness isn't just about weight. It's about hormones, nutrients, stress response, metabolic health — all working in harmony. I needed data, not guesswork. So I sat down with a provider and we mapped out a comprehensive blood panel designed to assess my hormone health from every angle.

What We Tested — and What Each Panel Revealed

  • Thyroid Panel (TSH, Free T3, Free T4)

Given my history with Hashimoto's, keeping a close eye on my thyroid is non-negotiable for me. My thyroid panel — which includes TSH, Free T3, and Free T4 — tells me how well my thyroid is actually functioning, not just whether it's in a "normal" range. Optimal thyroid function affects everything: metabolism, energy, mood, weight, skin, hair, and even gut health. Monitoring it regularly means I can catch any shifts early and address them proactively.

  • Sex Hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone)

This was one of the most revealing parts of my panel. As women, our estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels fluctuate constantly — and when they're out of balance, the effects ripple through every system in the body. Low progesterone can show up as anxiety, poor sleep, and irregular cycles. Estrogen imbalances can cause bloating, brain fog, and mood swings. And yes, women need testosterone too — for energy, libido, muscle tone, and mental clarity. Seeing my numbers gave me a clear picture of where my hormones stood and what needed support.

  • Cortisol & Adrenal Health

Cortisol is our primary stress hormone, and in today's world — especially as a mom and business owner — it can quietly wreak havoc on your health without you even realizing it. Chronically elevated cortisol can stall weight loss, disrupt sleep, cause hormonal chaos, and even contribute to autoimmune flares. Testing my cortisol levels helped me understand whether my adrenal glands were functioning optimally or if I had been running on empty for longer than I realized. The results pushed me to be more intentional about stress management — and the difference has been significant.

  • Nutrient Levels: Vitamin D, B12, Iron/Ferritin & Metabolic Markers

This section alone was worth every bit of the process. So many women are walking around deficient in Vitamin D, B12, or iron — and have no idea because the symptoms mimic so many other things: fatigue, hair loss, brain fog, low mood. My panel also included metabolic markers like fasting glucose, insulin, and A1C to assess blood sugar regulation, as well as inflammatory markers like CRP. Understanding where I was deficient allowed me to stop guessing and start supplementing with precision.

What I Did With the Results: Building My Optimization Plan

Having the data was empowering — but the real magic was in what I did next. Based on my blood work, I built a targeted wellness protocol that stacked on top of everything I was already doing. Here's what that looked like:

  • Targeted supplementation — Based on my deficiencies, I added specific, high-quality supplements including Vitamin D3 with K2, B12 in methylated form, and iron-supporting nutrients. No more guessing.

  • Hormone-supportive nutrition — I fine-tuned my diet to better support hormone health, focusing on anti-inflammatory whole foods, healthy fats for hormone production, and blood sugar stability throughout the day.

  • Prioritizing sleep — Sleep is when your body repairs, balances hormones, and resets cortisol. Once I understood how much my sleep quality was impacting my hormone panel, I made it a true priority.

  • Intentional stress management — With cortisol being a factor, I became more deliberate about protecting my nervous system — daily movement, breathwork, time in nature, and simply saying no to things that drain me.

  • Continuing with red light therapy and lymphatic drainage — These aren't just aesthetic services. They play a real role in reducing systemic inflammation, supporting cellular repair, and keeping my lymphatic system clear. Paired with optimized nutrition and supplementation, the results compound beautifully.

The Power of Ongoing Monitoring

Here's something I want every woman to hear: getting your blood work done once is valuable. Getting it done consistently is transformative.

Our hormones don't stay static. They shift with seasons, stress levels, age, diet, and sleep. Monitoring my levels regularly means I'm never flying blind — I can see trends, catch imbalances before they become symptoms, and adjust my protocol in real time. It's one of the most proactive things I've ever done for my long-term health.

Everything Working Together: The TLC Whole-Body Approach

When I look at where I am now compared to where I started — postpartum Hashimoto's, 40 extra pounds, exhausted and disconnected from my body — I'm genuinely in awe of what's possible when you treat yourself as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms.

GLP-1 helped me break through what diet alone couldn't. Glutathione, red light therapy, and lymphatic drainage gave my cells and immune system the tools to thrive. And now, with targeted blood work guiding my supplementation, nutrition, sleep, and stress management — I feel like I'm operating with a roadmap instead of just hoping for the best.

That's the vision I have for every single client who walks through the doors of TLC. Not just weight loss. Not just one service. A genuine, personalized, whole-body approach to feeling like the best version of yourself — backed by real information and real results.
